History
In 1995, Andrew and Aileen Ewing made the decision to look for a larger farm and moved from their home near Omagh, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland, to settle at Dumbretton Farm, Annan, Dumfries & Galloway. The plan was to maintain the dairy unit there and increase their Fairywater pedigree Limousin Herd, which they brought with them from Northern Ireland.
Andrew had also started exporting dairy cattle to Ireland at that time and after losing all of their stock to the 2001 FMD outbreak, the decision was taken not to reintroduce the dairy herd but to replace them with beef cattle ,continue with their interest in the Limousins and develop the export business further.
With the farm sitting just off the beautiful Solway Coast in South West Scotland, it lies only 3 miles from the M74 and 4 miles from the A75 giving it perfect access for transport to Ireland, the rest of the UK and Europe. With the addition of outstanding handling, including two newly built stables, isolation facilities, paddock, woodchip outdoor exercise area, ample turning space for large lorries and overnight accommodation in their Holiday Cottages if required, Dumbretton Farm is an ideal DEFRA approved staging post for any type of cattle no matter where they are going.
The Ewing family pride themselves on the standard of their accommodation both off and on the road and last year exported 2000 cattle to Italy alone, with more travelling to many European countries as well as the rest of the UK, including the first export of Highland females from the UK to Estonia.
